Chief Technology Officer


Rent Items’ CTO will be a co-founder and responsible for overseeing all web-based and mobile application development projects. The CTO will report directly to the CEO. The CTO will also help initiate new features and functionality and work with other members of the team to ensure our rental community’s experience is continuing to improve and receives better digital tools to accomplish rental transactions easier.

The CTO should be a creative, analytical, and a strategic thinker. He or she should be able to develop aggressive project plans and tactfully lead others through execution. Most importantly, he or she must be able to lead technology-based teams in a manner that creates a high level of engagement, a pursuit of excellence in work product, and camaraderie within the organization.


  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve our software.
  • Manage all technical project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Lead web and mobile project teams and develop others using strong leadership skills.
  • Build relationships and bridges among other areas of the organization.
  • Work closely with C-level leadership to solve business and technical challenges.
  • Be an encourager by maintaining a positive can do and will do attitude under pressure.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology advancements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience.
  • Significant experience with several general purpose programming languages including but not limited to: JavaScript, Swift, React, Angular, Bootstrap, Ruby on Rails, Java, Python, and Go.
  • Significant experience with managing large web application development and mobile application development projects.
  • Experience working with the following: machine learning, information retrieval, artificial intelligence (AI), networking, developing large software systems, and/or security software development.
  • Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s, PhD degree, further education or experience in engineering, computer science or other technical related field.
  • Has a strong sense of business acumen in how to commercialize a technology product.
  • Interest and ability to learn other coding languages as needed.
